" TAIWAN is ABSOLUTELY not a part of china "

To whom it may concern:
As an individual passionate about world affairs and current events, I am disappointed to see your newly released "Global Competitiveness Index” erroneously listing Taiwan as “Taiwan, China.”
Adding “China” next to Taiwan is not only misleading to your readers, it is incorrect and devoid of the reality in the Taiwan Strait. I trust that the experts and policymakers at the WEF are acutely aware that China does not exercise any control over Taiwan, a fledging democracy with a free-market economy.
Taiwan’s economic achievements and rise to having become an economic power house, due to Taiwanese government’s initiatives and policies combined with hard work by the industrious Taiwanese people, have long been well-documented in text books, academic papers, and analytical research worldwide. Mainstream business magazines or publications, such as Forbes or Business Week, always refer Taiwan as “Taiwan.”
I also noticed that you specifically added “SAR” instead of “China” next to Hong Kong when Hong Kong in fact is a part of China today. That Hong Kong is rid of any explicit China reference in the index while Taiwan isn’t puzzles concerned readers including me. In addition, Puerto Rico, which is a territory of the United States, is listed as “Puerto Rico” without any reference of the U.S.
The WEF prides itself with being “an independent and neutral organization that does not take political positions…..” Listing Taiwan with a China reference is adopting China’s political position, especially in view that this contradicts the current reality of the Taiwan Strait. I strongly urge the WEF to refer to Taiwan simply as “Taiwan”; after all, it is the most commonly known name for Taiwan, a small yet prosperous economy that has contributed greatly to the economic growth and well-beings of its people, of the region and of the world. Taiwan deserves and is due such recognition in its own right.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely yours,
